Our organization building in Lusaka
We have had our own association building in Kabanana since 2024! This is the district in Lusaka where our partner association Ife Pamodzi Christian Organization is based and where the majority of our sponsored children live. The construction of this building is a dream come true: In addition to an office for administration and as a contact point for the sponsored children, we have a large classroom where we now offer daily tutoring, homework supervision and other programs. Every day, between 20 and 30 children and young people take part free of charge.
The construction of the building with two rooms was 100% donation-based and was completed in just a few months with the help of many local volunteers. A solar system with an electricity storage unit was also installed, as the public power supply is unreliable.
Our Zambian association chairman Titus Sinyangwe Jr. is responsible for the programs and is now supported by two young tutors every afternoon. We also pay a woman from the neighborhood to clean the rooms regularly. In this way, the building provides three women from Kabanana with a small salary.
What is the building used for?
- Tutoring and homework help for the sponsored children as well as children and young people from the neighborhood six afternoons a week, for every age and grade level
- Literacy courses for adults
- The opportunity to borrow books or read on site
- Exam preparation for the final classes (years 7, 9 and 12)
- Pastoral counseling
- Advice on school careers, sponsorships, scholarship opportunities, training, etc.
- Support for sponsored children and their families in regular meetings and discussions
- Selective distribution of food or clothing donations (i.e. whenever we receive specific donations for this purpose)
- Storage of school materials that the sponsored children can pick up when needed
- A printer to print out letters from sponsors or school documents, for example
